As a student or pilot certificate holder, you are required to self-declare your meeting the health standard required to hold a driver licence. You are also expected to monitor and assess your health standard prior to each flight and as a guide we provide a handy prompt in the form of the IMSAFE reminder:
Illness – Is the pilot suffering from any illness or symptom of an illness which might affect them in flight?
Medication – Is the pilot currently taking any drugs (prescription-or-over-the-counter)?
Stress – Are there any psychological or emotional factors which might affect the pilot’s performance?
Alcohol – Was there any alcohol consumption within the last 8 to 24 hours, with nil alcohol consumption permitted in the preceding 8 hours before the proposed flight?
Fatigue – Has the pilot had sufficient sleep and rest in the recent past?
Eating – Is the pilot sufficiently nourished?
